Booker T. Washington State Park in the Tennessee River Valley and Mountains

Booker T. Washington, located near Chattanooga, honors pioneering black educator Broker T. Washington while providing users a water playground area that has space for a variety of recreational activities. The 353-acre park lies along the shores of Chickamauga Reservoir.

Its namesake, Booker Taliaferro Washington was born into slavery at Hale's Ford Virginia. With great determination, he secured an education and became one of America's best known and most loved citizen. He became a prominent writer, scholar and educator and is most widely remembered for his many years of service as president of the Tuskegee Institute, a prestigious Institution of higher learning for African-American students. Now recognized as the Tuskegee University, this school is well known for its excellence in veterinary medicine.

Directions: Take I-24 or I-75 to Hwy. 153. From Hwy. 153 go to Hwy. 58. Follow hwy. 58 to Champion Road on the left and follow signs to park.
