Month of May
Boy was the month of May hard work. My dad spent many days getting the ground ready by first tilling the dirt, then preparing the ground by adding compost. |
| After he told me the ground was ready, my mom, my dad and I started to layout the garden. We dug big rows out for many of the vegetables and some 10x10 square foot gardens for other ones. Even at the end we made 3x3 foot hill for one of my favorite sweet potatoes. |
Now that the garden was laid out it was time to start planting. After tending to and babying our seedlings for so long they were finally ready to put into the ground. We were so excited we ran up to the house to find that my new kitten Carlie had decided that she also liked the plants and ate most of our baby seedlings. |
| Some survived and those are what is in the garden now. After being munched on for a snack by Carlie we planted them in the ground. This picture shows the best one we had left. We were not going to give up though. We knew that with enough caring and love they could come back. |
After each plant was planted we covered up the base of each tiny seedling with humus. Humus offers protection for the plant and allows the soil underneath to stay moist. |
| This is my dad and I working hard on my little plants. He is the best gardener I know. He shows me everything the plants and how to take care of them. |
