Lake Blue Ridge - Fannin County Georgia
Boating, fishing and other watersports bring a steady flow of seasonal visitors to the 3,290 acre lake with over 100 miles of Lake Blue Ridge shoreline. Summer homes, as well as year-round residences occupy some of the Lake Blue Ridge shores. There are several boat ramps, a public swimming and picnic areas. Blue Ridge reservoir is 11 miles long and has 65 miles of shoreline, 25 percent of which is developed, 80 percent of the shoreline on Lake Blue Ridge is in the Chattahoochee National Forest, managed by the USDA Forest Service.
Forest service recreation areas include the Lake Blue Ridge Campground, off Aska Road in Blue Ridge, which has 90 campsites, a picnic area, boat ramp and loop trail along the lake shore. Morganton Point Campground, in Morganton, features a public swimming area, along with 43 campsites, picnic tables and pavilion and a boat ramp. Another boat ramp is available at Lakewood Landing near Morganton.

Lake Blue Ridge

Visitors along this point of Lake Blue Ridge will find 43-campsites, 8 picnic sites, a pavilion and boat launch and a sizable beach head with a lifeguard on duty during the summer camping season. This site is one of the broadest and most beautiful views of the waters of Lake Blue.
Another boat ramp is available at Lakewood Landing near Morganton.

Toccoa River - Fannin County Georgia
The Toccoa River flows through the very heart and length of Fannin County. Above Lake Blue Ridge the Toccoa River is stocked with trout regularly. Below the dam the catching is usually plentiful. Many anglers like to float-fish from the dam downstream to McCaysville. Water levels can rise suddenly, you would be advised to check the dates and times for water releases from Blue Ridge Dam at 800-238-2264 before your trip.
Fishing is allowed on segments of the Toccoa River where one or both sides are National Forest System Lands, provided anglers are legally licensed and comply with all state fishing regulations.
Otherwise you must obtain permission from private property owners to access the river or even fish from a boat, should it be privately owned on both sides of the river. The local forestry office can help you with that info, Toccoa Ranger District, 6050 Appalachian Highway, Blue Ridge, GA, 706-632-3031.

This river access below the dam is across from the historic powerhouse.

Coopers Creek Scenic Area
Chattahoochee NF - Fannin County Access
This scenic wildlife and water management area of 1,240-acres within a total of 34,000-acres offers an old growth forest area, trout stocked steams for fishing, numerous hiking and biking trails along with canoeing (water levels must be considered.)
Seventeen campsites are available at the Coopers Creek Recreation Area accommodating tents or trailers up to 22-feet plus 11 campsites at Coopers Creek's Mulky Campground (open late March thru October 31.) Both campgrounds have drinking water and sanitary facilities. Forestry road scenic drives include Loop Drive, Mulky Gap Drive and Fanny Gap Drive.

Stanley Creek - Fannin County Georgia
Stanley Creek Road just off Aska Road follows Stanley Creek to the very heart of the Aska Trail - Rich Mountain Wilderness.
A short distance from the main roadway along Stanley Creek Road the pavement ends as the roadway follows a gravel-dirt forestry road to access points along Stanley Creek.

Fall Branch Falls
The trail head to Benton MacKaye and Fall Branch Falls, borders the historic farm and house of Forest Service Fire Warden Garfield Stanley along Stanley Creek Road. You will find trail signage near the bridge.
Benton MacKaye Trail forms a 250-mile loop following sections of the Appalachian Trail thru North Georgia’s Chattahoochee National Forest. The trail is named after Benton MacKaye the “Father of the Appalachian Trail.” There are numerous points along the trail that are accessible form roadways and forest roads.
To reach the falls visitors hike up a section of the Benton MacKaye Trail along the Fall Branch creek, it's about a 15-minute hike up a moderately strenuous trail. A short trail to the visible falls lies to the right. The return trip to the parking area is all downhill.
A viewing deck is available for picture perfect photos. Continuing up the Benton MacKaye Trail a short distance brings visitors to the top of the falls with a small picnic and/or campsite about 30-yards above the falls.

Just south of Blue Ridge in Fannin County at Deep Gap is the Aska Trail, a 17-mile hiking and biking trail that ascends to 3,200-ft offering beautiful views of mountain ridges and Lake Blue Ridge below.

Benton MacKaye Trail
Duncan Ridge Trail Access
Two renowned mountain trails, Benton MacKaye Trail and Duncan Ridge Trail share the same path at this access point just of GA 60; parking is limited.

Duncan Ridge Trail extends along Duncan Ridge from Fannin through Union County's Chattahoochee National Forest. The trail is accessible from several roadways and forestry roads.
In addition these combined trails converging at GA 60 also offers an access point along a bumpy forestry road that leads to the famed swinging bridge that's suspended over the Toccoa River.

Swinging Bridge on the
Benton MacKaye and Duncan Ridge Trail
This 265 foot long bridge is the longest swinging bridge east of the Mississippi River. Just south of Skeenah Gap Road along GA 60 is a forestry road and trail crossing for the Benton MacKaye and Duncan Ridge Trail. The forestry road is located along the west side of GA 60. To reach the swinging bridge you can follow this rough and bumpy forestry road for three miles and park at the end of the road.
In 1976 the Forest Service, along with the Georgia Appalachian Trail Club replaced a dangerous ford of the Toccoa River in this area. The bridge, built by a private contractor, was completed in 1977 and has become a landmark in Fannin County and a popular camping spot in the Blue Ridge Wildlife Management Area.
A hike from the parking area to the swinging bridge and Toccoa River takes about 5-minutes and is moderate in difficulty to hike.

Located along Aska Road in the small mountain community of Due in Fannin County, is the Shallowford Bridge. This section near the bridge is a popular river access for fishing, tubing and canoe takeout.

Chattahoochee National Forest Fish Hatchery
Located 5-miles off GA 60 this hatchery produces approximately 850,000 rainbow trout annually. Spawning operation are not a part of the hatchery, fertilized eggs are shipped here for incubation and development before being released into the streams, rivers and lakes of the Chattahoochee National Forestry. A fascinating site kids and adult fishing enthusiasts.
Visitors can fish with a license along Rock Creek and Rock Creek Lake near the hatchery.
Nearby Frank Gross Campground has 11 campsites for tents and trailers up to 22-feet, drinking water, picnic tables and sanitary facilities are available.

Ocoee White Water Center
The highly acclaimed white water river gorge consist of several class IV and IV+ rapids with commercial only rafting companies available to the public plus open access to individual kayakers and Slalom canoe adventures. The Ocoee River White Water Center and parklands hosted the 1996 Olympic Slalom Canoe/Kayak event.
Other points of interest along the river are hiking and biking trails, waterfalls, a lake, the Ocoee Scenic Byway. Historic sites include a wood dam, elevated water-box, and a power plant and remnants of the Old Copper Road.
The Ocoee River is located in the tri-state area of Eastern Tennessee, North Georgia and Western North Carolina.
