One hour north of the hustle and bustle of Atlanta via I-575, the communities of Ellijay and East Ellijay welcome visitors to relax and enjoy a place of quaint mountain towns, friendly folks and genuine southern mountain culture. There are as many reasons to pick Ellijay and Gilmer County as your destination as there are varieties of fresh, crisp apples grown here in Georgia's Apple Capital. Apple houses and orchards dot the pastoral landscape and beckon you to pull over and sit awhile. Pick up some apple cider doughnuts, fresh baked apple bread, or your favorite jams and jellies and taste the sweet mountain air in each bite. Stroll through Ellijay's quaint downtown and visit some of the wonderful antique and collectables shops, paint-your-own pottery, learn how to quilt or make your own jewelry at one of the creative learning shops in downtown. Three rivers flow through our communities giving way to great opportunities for kayaking or tubing. Follow the Coosawattee River into Carter's Lake and enjoy a beautiful, undeveloped mountain lake setting. Or hike one of the many trails that criss-cross the area including the Benton-MacKaye and the Appalachian Trail.
