Amongst the famed apple orchards of Ellijay in Gilmer County, GA lies the county's first vineyard, Cartecay Vineyards. Named for the region of the county in which the vineyard is situated, Cartecay, Cherokee for Bread Valley, has a rich terroir, a combination of factors, including soil, climate and environment, that give our wine unique and distinctive character. Our goal is to allow the fullest expression of the Cartecay terroir in our grapes, and subsequently in our wines. We believe that the terroir of Cartecay allows our vines to grow, age and produce grapes of the highest quality, that in turn allows us to produce wine of the highest quality. We are currently producing Merlot, Vidal Blanc, and Chimney Blush wines from our Merlot and Vidal Blanc grapes. In the seasons to come, we will be producing wines from our Traminette, Norton (Cynthiana), Catawba and Cabernet Sauvignon. Cartecay Vineyards is open for wine tastings, tours, weddings and events.
